Squaring the Circle of Alternative Assessment in Distance Language Education: A Focus on the Young Learner

چکیده

Because of the suspension face-to-face (F2F) teaching activities caused by COVID-19, practitioners are in limbo regarding assessment young learners (YLs) virtual learning environment, as they left with minimal guidance and evidence on what can be applicable effective new context. In many countries worldwide, a consequence COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, schools Greece were closed March 2020. Schools began re-opening September 2020; however, second wave struck, number cases to grow dangerously. Consequently, for time at beginning November 2020, causing teachers students face significant challenges. The article presents case study that concentrates eight YLs aged 8–10 years old. Alternative was applied during students’ online language lessons means teacher assess evaluate progress vocabulary spelling. For needs study, observations conducted, field notes, record sheets checklists kept period two months. Two months after commenced, interviewed order gain holistic view their feelings toward experience an alternative form assessment.
